How many lighthouses does Cape Cod have?


Cape Cod lighthouses are some of the most scenic and beautiful locations in Massachusetts. There are 14 lights strewn along the cape's coast. While some of them are closed to public access, plenty of others are available for you to climb. Consider this your personal guide to the cape's lights.

Provincetown Lighthouses

(15 minute drive / short walk)
These lighthouses are a quick visit from P-Town. Perfect for a morning walk or afternoon trip with your special someone.

Long Point Lighthouse

Across the Provincetown Causeway, there are a couple of lights you can see after a short trek along the beaches. The Long Point Lighthouse trail is around a 6 mile walk around the island, which will take you to two stellar Provincetown lighthouses.

Is Long Point Lighthouse Trail dog-friendly?

The trail is dog-friendly if your pup is on a leash.

Can you climb Long Point Lighthouse?

No.


Wood End Lighthouse

If you decide to walk the Long Point Lighthouse trail, the Wood End Light will be the second Provincetown lighthouse you'll see.

Can you climb Wood End Lighthouse?

Unfortunately, no. It's only for viewing.

Race Point Lighthouse

On the other side of Provincetown, you have a relaxing beach with the Race Point Lighthouse looming over the rocky shores. The lighthouse workers offer tours throughout the summer and into late fall, though this may change due to various circumstances.

If you want to walk in the lighthouse, you cannot wear flip flops. Your shoes must be secure on your feet.

Can you climb Race Point Lighthouse?

Yes you can! Tours are open May through October. While technically the climb is free, it is recommended you donate $5 per person to keep the lighthouse running.

Nauset Lighthouse

Debatably the most famous lighthouse of Cape Cod, the Nauset Light is a welcoming attraction for any Massachusetts tourist. There are also nearby food trucks that you can enjoy after a lovely tour.

Can you climb the Nauset Lighthouse?

Yes you can!

It is absolutely free, but it is recommended that you make a donation.



Highland Lighthouse

After major renovations in 2021, the Highland Lighthouse will be up and ready for visits in the 2022 summer season!

Can you climb the Highland Lighthouse?

Yes you can! Children under 48" will not be permitted to climb. Make sure to leave food, bags, and other merchandise in your car, as they will not be allowed in the historical building.

Three Sisters Lighthouses

On the mainland of Cape Cod sit three lighthouses guarded by trees. The Three Sisters Lighthouses make for a wonderful place to eat a nice meal with your family and learn about the history of these buildings.

These short buildings stand tall at 22 feet. With a guide, you will receive a tour of each one and learn how they came to be.

What does the Three Sisters Lighthouse tour cost?

It's absolutely free, and two of the lighthouses are open to public access.

Lighthouses near Hyannis, MA

(40+ minutes away)
If you don't mind a longer drive all over the cape, you can see all the lighthouses you want!

Nobska Point Lighthouse

Southern Cape Cod has a wonderful lighthouse in Nobska Point. While you can drive by on your own time, you can climb the tower at designated times.

What time can I tour Nobska Point?

You can climb the tower from 10AM-12PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, this time might change, so keep up to date on the lighthouse's website.

Chatham Lighthouse

A beautiful lighthouse on the southeastern point of the cape, Chatham Lighthouse can be a great stop on your driving tour of the Cape Cod Lighthouses.

When can I climb Chatham Lighthouse?

At the moment, all tours are closed for the lighthouse, but the building will likely open up again in the future. You can still drive by with your family.
